Red Barricades Map Overlays

You can read the following about the historical RB-map overlay:

Red Barricades Map Update Overlays

These overlays are based on data released after the original Red Barricades game was published. They are an attempt to make the RB geographic area even more accurate to its appearance during the battle. Use the hex coordinates printed on the overlays as a guide for their proper positioning. Players may, at their discretion, choose to use any or all of the below update overlays to alter the game map, but should keep in mind that such use may alter the balance or affect the VC of some scenarios or CGs.

RB Update Overlays - Cutting Instructions

These overlays should be cut exactly along the outer-most edge (i.e., where the full-color map art meets the white background).

Now, if you want to attach the overlays permanently onto the Red Barricades map and still have a RB map that is foldable and easy to store away in a ring binder or box. Then follow these Cutting Instructions.

First, the overlay sheet with the 7 overlays have to be color-copied. Use a pair of scissors (the brand Fiskars is best).

RB1 - Cut out the 3-hex overlay along the hexsides and enough to make the hexsides (and also the hedge and cliff) disappear (the hexsides of the RB map is to be used). The two westernmost vertexes are cut away, about 3mm, to make the north RB map section foldable.

RB2 - Cut out the 3-hex overlay along the hexsides and enough to make the hexsides (and also most of the hedge) disappear. The hexsides of the RB map is to be used. The three westernmost vertexes are cut away, about 3mm, to make the north RB map section foldable.

RB3 - Cut out building overlay hex FF16 along all its hexsides and enough to make the hexsides disappear.

- Open ground overlay hex HH15 is not to be used (most part of the hex is discarded) and is cut away exactly along the words “Water Pump Gully”.

- Gully overlay hex GG16 have 4 of its hexsides cut away to make these hexsides disappear. The hexside towards (non-overlay) brush hex FF15 is cut out like a regular overlay, so it attaches nicely to that brush hex. Now cut the hex into two parts (to make the RB map foldable), about 1/3 north part of the hex and about 2/3 south part of the hex, use picture as a guideline and see RB map for an assessment.

RB4 - Cut out the 1-hex overlay along the hexsides and enough to make the hexsides disappear (the hexsides of the RB map is to be used).

RB5 - Cut across overlay building hex Z23 just above the centerdot, this part of the overlay - Z24 and Z23 with dot - is to be glued onto the south RB map section. Cut away all hexsides to make them disappear (including most of the wall).

- Wooden Rubble hex Z21 is cut away and discarded.

- Cut out these 3-hexes into one overlay Z22, AA22, AA23. Cut away all hexsides to make them disappear. Cut away the two eastern-most vertexes about 4mm to make the map foldable.

- Road hex CC21 is cut away and discarded.

- Shellhole hex BB22 is cut away and discarded, although the word “Apothecary” can be saved if you fancy that.

- Cut out these 3-hexes into one overlay BB21, CC22, CC23 (Apothecary). Cut away all hexsides to make them disappear. Cut away the western-most vertex about 3mm to make the map section foldable.

RB6 - Open ground overlay hex FF11 is not to be used (most part of the hex is discarded) and is cut away exactly along the words “Pencil Gully”. Cut out the Gully overlay hex along the hexsides and enough to make the hexsides (and also the hedge) disappear.

RB7 - Cut out the 2-hex overlay along the hexsides and enough to make the hexsides (and also the wall) disappear (the hexsides of the RB map is to be used).

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, these new overlays-parts can be glued permanently onto the Red Barricades map, mostly on the north map section [EXC: Z23-24].  I strongly recommend to use rubber glue to attach the overlays onto the map. These instructions are guidelines, and you will be able to make your own conclusions how to go about it. Although perhaps more than one color copy of the overlay sheet is needed if you mess up. Good luck.
