10 SWs (2 LMG, 4 ATR, 4 DC).AFTERMATH (7 Game Turns): The last day of the campaign, two nebelwerfer struck down at the fanatic building nest,rubbled half the building, cleared of plenty of fortifications and caused severe casualties. Two pltns of German panzer position themselves in front of the building 200m away and start to blast the Russian positions. A barrage of smoke blind the lined up Panzer, they start up and roll forward, enter the smoke barrage and some roll pass it and one StuG IIIB crashed into the building and fall down into the cellar. Now, the German Infantry decide to take advantage of the smoke barrage and charge forward, suddenly another artillery barrage is called down blasting the Germans with high explosives. A single 8-3-8 manage to enter the building after taking two 2 MC outside the building blasted by an INF gun. Inside the 8-3-8 advance up to 1 st level and CC one Russian 2-4-8 HS eliminating it and thereafter attacked by hvy artillery blast 30 FP +2 (Gutted upper lvl). Then the 8-3-8 is attacked by a placed DC that it shrugs off, then ambushed by a 6-2-8 that had placed the DC, and miss hurting the 8-3-8 that now kills it in return. All the while more Panzer is turned to wrecks outside the building and German troops breaks, but when the building falls the Russian do desperate actions and is moved down, the battle is over.

Think it is becoming clear that Twilight of the Reich - scenarios is designed with the intent for VASL first and foremost and most of the playtesting was made through that format.
Clearly these overdesigned SSRs is not what made ASL popular and if this type of scenario designs had been released at the very beginning, players going over from Squad Leader to Advanced Squad Leader would never happen as it did.

Summary: PIN Passengers, when fired upon, the FFNAM -1 DRM still applies when they Unloads from a Vehicle and possible FFMO if unloading from a truck in Open Ground, despite being PIN.
A4.6...Units loading onto/disembarking from vehicles are always subject to FFNAM. A further -1 First Fire DRM applies to units moving in the open (FFMO).
D6.5 UNLOADING:...(end of line 22) Unloading PIN Passengers may not leave the Dismount Location during that MPh. FFNAM always applies vs loading or unloading units (A4.6).

AFTERMATH (6 Game Turns): During the idle day both sides gather strength for the final battle. German call in several panzer pltns while the Russian bring gun batteries to the frontline. The battle start with German panzer roll forward, other panzer have taken up hulldown positions and try to blast the Russian positions, a Nebelwefer is called down and knock out several Guns and a Btln MTR blast the fanatic building nest. In respone heavy Russian artillery is called down and blast several panzer to wrecks and cause the German infantry to lose heart and flee the scene. After the loss of two thirds of the German panzer the assault is called off.

SA3 STORM FROM THE NORTH A former Deluxe scenario and very unbalanced to say the least, a German assault that takes it slow and steady will grind the Russians to dust with the help of the German Panzer. It was converted in early 2001 into a non-deluxe scenario (i.e., boards 45, 51 are used), and released 2008. Very different in how the battle plays out, and of course, with more maneuver than before. New VCs, Set up instructions, SSRs, etc. When I was new to ASL we thought the meaty Order of Battles looked great and wanted to play them, but got tired of the limited space on the Deluxe boards (a contradiction in itself). The Goal with the conversion were to keep the OB and Turn length in its original form released by Avalon Hill. Often we have found that large scenarios are often unbalanced. Believe the playtesting is much more work. Made a great effort to have it tested, and not guess-worked upon.

SA2 SPOILS OF WAR New scenario, came into being, after playing a micro-armor landscape battle at a convention in 1996. Two of us (ASL players), played the German side and two miniature players played the Russians (one Russian commander was later replaced
). Enjoyed it and looked into the time frame of the micro-armor scenario played. 2nd Battle of Kharkov 12-28 May -42 The Barvenkovo Bulge, a total disaster for the Red Army lost nearly 300 000 and equipment vs German losses of 20 000, and found it an interesting and very large battle. Transformed the Micro-Armor scenario into a scenario for ASL.

SA1 BLAZING BORDERS Updated, upscaled to a larger scenario, and a better historical version. No German MGs, been replaced. No Finnish 20L ATR & Pipe Grenades, not available the first day of the Winter War. Doubled the number of Finnish squads to 24x 6-4-8, tripled the number of Russian squads from 26 to 75x 4-4-7 and doubled the number of Russian T26S M37 to 12 AFVs. Increased the Border with one board, now the Russians attack along 30 hexes (instead of 20), 1200 meters, 600m on each side of the only road, Added five overlays to the boards. Deleted the 6 Russian trucks. New VCs, Set up instructions, decreased the number of turns from 13 to 11.5 Turns. Among many other changes. Started with these updates 1997, to make a large scenario to be played in about 12 hours, only intended for my own amusement and play with friends. But the Germans call in rain drops of 150mm artillery shells, one directed from an observer with fieldphone that bomb the fanatic building nest during the whole battle (5 black chits in a row), the building tremble and shake in its foundation but still stand, but eventually catch fire and the whole building is set ablaze. The other Hvy Arty 150+mm guided by the Spotter plane bomb the area around the fanatic building and destroys a whole trench-line (5) and bleed the Russians dry. Russian reinforcement is the last coy that is an Assault Enginner Coy lost 50% of its men during the battle. Stuka planes led by a 10-2 Stuka ace dive and drop bombs and rake the ground, eliminating several Russians squads. The Russian OBA 120+mm helped to stall German assault teams from moving forward and caused casulties if they did.
