  1. Any chance that there are any NHL/Hockey interested out there in the swedish ASL community ? I've got 2 tickets for fridays game between St.Louis Blues and Detroit Red Wings. The tickets are adjacent in section C8. Due to sickness in the family I wont be able to go :-(

If anybody is interested in these tickets, please contact me at bo_siemsen@city.dk

  3. Scandinavian Open is running a Valor of the Guards Mini-tournament this year ... unfortunately we havent received all our copies yet - only one. So we would appreciate if a couple of you fine swedish ASL'ers could bring the VOTG map to the tournament so we can borrow it for the Mini-tournament. The Maps would obviously only be used on a plexi-glass plate.

please email me at bo_siemsen@city.dk if you can help us out

    Best Regards

  4. Hmmm.

I hvert fald for mig.

    ****************************************************************

A quick story from the Arnhem 2007 Tournament. As always it was a terrific event that I can only recommend attending. Thanks to Peter, Liz, Hennie and who else helped make it happen.

    ****************************************************************************

This isn't really an after action report, just a funny event that took place during the final game of the tournament.

There I was ready to play the final game. I was set to play against the Tournament legend Toby Pilling. The Scenario was "Determination, Resolve and Grenades". I was defending board 25 with greek squads armed with Italian Artillery Guns. Suffice to say, I totally messed up the setup and my plan was extremely flawed to begin with. Result, easy win for Toby Pilling. That obviously isn't the funny event I'm referring to.

Both of us preferred to play the Germans, he won the dice-roll and I received an upgrade to my 9-1 leader. 9-2 leaders are nice. Usually. This guy was set up ready to direct fire from the Heavy Machine Gun manned by a Half Squad.

We begin play, first shot of the game. Toby's 88 opens up for an area fire shot. NMC. Leader rolls snake-eyes and decides to go beserk. Halfsquad can't resist and joins him . and before a sensible chap can say "But, Sir, wouldn't it be better to shoot at the enemy with the Heavy Machine Gun rather than run down attacking 200 Germans and their 5 armored cars singlehandedly ?" he has put on his running boots and off he went . running down from his entrenchments in his level 4 hill hex . down through the gully . up from the gully . sprinting towards the nearest known enemy unit . but wait, where did he go ? . damn Germans hiding from me . ah, I got it . those big 88's on the hill on the other side of the valley . I'll attack those instead . sprinting across the wide open valley . sprinting some more . climbing the hill on the other side of the valley . getting in point blank against the 88 . but damnit, then that crew went into hiding too . thank God that german halfsquad in the valley re-appeared from hiding I'll charge him instead . down the hill, cross the gully, cross the hedge . game over ? we lost ? damn, I'll try again in the next scenario.

    * * * * *

For those interested in statistics. The 9-2 leader and the Halfsquad spent 55 movement points trying to find some Germans to kill during 8 game turns entering roughly 45 new hexes during the charge around the battlefield. Now where's the rules for Beserker exhaustion in ASL :-) ?

This brave fella was dubbed "The Marathon Man" and Toby kept humming the theme from Chariots of fire (if you know that old Oscar Winning movie it will be funny). He wasn't the brightest guy, but boy oh boy could he run .

Check out the fine pictures from the Miracle mile:

    Picture 1

In the foreground you will notice my Beserkers . in the background you will notice the 200 Germans and several vehicles trying to squeeze down Toby's left flank

    http://www.wcfhl.dk/Arnhem/Arnhem01.jpg

    Picture 2

shows the Germans hiding in the woods. Too much for Captain Montague . he had to attack.

    http://www.wcfhl.dk/Arnhem/Arnhem02.jpg

    Picture 3

Waaaay in the background you will notice the beserkers standing adjacent to an 88LL AT-Gun on the hill across the valley. In the foreground you will notice the broken down greek lines viciously exploited by the German Armored Cars right in the area that the HMG was supposed to cover.

    http://www.wcfhl.dk/Arnhem/Arnhem03.jpg

    Picture 4

The Germa n crew cleverly sneaks away leaving Captain Montague severely confused, so he starts charging back downhill. (poor picture quality)

    Picture 5

Toby has moved to my side of the table in order to get a better view of his exit routes. In the foreground Tournament director Peter Struijf looks thoughtful. (This picture is primarily shown to display the map in the background - Narva '44. A new campaign being designed in Denmark, still in the early playtest phases).

En Mortar der skyder fra hex A til B (over 8 hexes) modificeres af en +1 Low Visibility hindrance.

En AT Gun der skyder fra hex A til B (over 8 hexes) har ingen low visibility hindrance.

  7. Hej svenske grabber,

An interesting situation developed in my game today. We're playing a game with ground snow in effect. My squad is wearing winter camouflage. My squad is in a woods hex. My opponent fires his Mortar at me and rolls a 7. Now, the question is does Winter Camouflage mean that this is a miss ?

    E 3.712 WINTER CAMOUFLAGE

In any type of snow, any infantry unit specified as having winter camouflage receives a +1 LV hindrance when fired upon beyond 8 hexes unless it already qualifies for a POSITIVE TEM other than smoke.

The range is over 8 hexes.

It is a mortar shooting at me. That means the TEM is -1 if he scores a hit. So, winter camouflage applies here and the shot was a miss ? In strict accordance with the wording of the rules I'd say yes I do get winter camouflage. Not sure it makes a lot of sense though.

  8. Hej Grabbar.

    Hej Peter,

    venlig hilsen

    Bo Siemsen

And in English, in case my Danish doesn't translate so well into swedish

    Hey Peter,

Why mix up ASL and politics ? I dont understand how you would be 'supporting' a policy by going to an ASL Tournament. There are things about Dutch and Swedish National politics that I don't like ... but I still go to tournaments in Arnhem, Stockholm and possibly Linnkoping this year. The only one who really suffers from that principle is yourself and all the friendly ASL-players. That's sad.

Which policy is it specifically that you dont like ? I'm afraid even a new government wont help. If that is the case we'll never see you in Copenhagen again :(

    Kind Regards

    Bo Siemsen

  9. 3 Danes are coming to Stockholm (in no random order)

    - Bo Siemsen

    - Kenneth Knudsen

    - Martin Kristensen

We will be arriving by train.

The timing is a bit of a problem though. The first train from Copenhagen that stops in Flemingsberg on that day is at 12.28. Is this sufficient time to arrive at the tournament site ? Or should we go on to Stockholm and get picked up there ? There is an earlier train that arrives in Stockholm at 11.40 (doesn't stop at Flemingsberg)

    Tournament registration is 12.00-12.45.

    Bo Siemsen

There will only be 2 Danes coming.

    - Bo Siemsen

    - Lars Klysner

    Still arriving 12.28 at Flemingsberg

  10. You are mostly welcome!

Don´t go to Stockholm first. Take the train that stops in Flemingsberg 12.28.

It take 15-20 minutes to walk from Flemingsberg to the tournament site in Tullinge. Make a phonecall to Melvin on your arrival, and we send a car to pick you up.

Sounds good. We will take that 12.28 train and count on getting picked up at the station. So, if there's a delay now you know why :)

Anyway, I have another question that I hope you can answer equally convincing ... on sunday the last round is scheduled to end at 14.00 ... so we should be able to make the return-train at 15.30 at Flemingsberg, right ?

  12. Vi kom, vi såg, vi segrade!

    Andreas,

Hats off to Mattias though, played and won his 3rd round game while still loudly drunk and his 4th round game while hung over.

Hope to see you all next year.

  13. 54 players from all Europe participated in this 10th anniversary ASL Scandinavian Open, despite the snowstorm which surprisingly enough only prevented two danes from attending.

The winner after 5 rounds of heavy dice rolling was:

Peter Struijf from Holland, repeating his victory from last year, by defeating Mel Falk in "Lenin's Sons", in the last round. Runner up was Bo Siemsen, Denmark tied with Toby Pilling, UK with Bo taking 2nd place by tiebreaker.

Winner of the East Front mini-tournament was Niels Larsen, Denmark

Winner of Fortress Cassino mini-tournament was Tomas Davidsson, Sweden.

    CC winner ; Jeroen Verheij

    Snake eye winner; Roger Sjögren

    Boxcar winner ; Bo Siemsen

Thanks to all the players for making this a very nice weekend. We are already looking forward to next years ASO. Preparations has already begun and we hope to break our attendance record once again.

Also thanks to our sponsers; MMP donating an Armies of Oblivion, Histofig for donating 200 Euro's worth of scenario packs and magazines and to the bunker crew for the Valor of the Guards DB theme issue.

  14. This is particularly directed at those ASL'ers who are supposed to arrive in Copenhagen tomorrow for the Scandinavian Open.

The weather here has been particularly bad with a snowstorm that has paralyzed most of the country and also caused problems with regards to transportation. Some of the bridges have been closed at times and there has been delays in the airport.

We would like to hear from those of you who will not be able to get here or might get here later than scheduled. We would also like you contact us if you get delayed on your way to the tournament site tomorrow. We need to know if we have to take any precautions. If you have knowledge of someone else who might not get here tomorrow, but aren't reading this please let us know.

You can contact me by email or contact one of us by phone.

ABS H2 i detta scenario synes vara oklar , bör man byta ut ordet "and" med "with"

  18. Tjena Boys (& Girls?)!
