  4. The preparations for the 2017 Edition of the Scandinavian Open are well under way. It will be our 20th anniversary. 20 years and still going strong. The tournament will again be held at Danhostel Amager, the location that has served us so well in recent years.

We will continue the extended format that we introduced in 2016. The Tournament will once again be a 5 day event with Friendly gaming Wednesday and Thursday and the classic 5 round ASO main tournament starting friday running through sunday. There will also be mini tournaments saturday and sunday.

The friendly gaming Wednesday and Thursday will take place at the same venue as the main tournament, so you can see it as a chance to warm up for the main tournament or just a chance to play some new opponents in a friendly atmosphere. We will also set up a mini tournament on thursday for those yearning for more competitive gaming.

We have been able to negotiate a very good price with our Tournament Venue:
(Exact prices to be confirmed, but expected to be along these lines again)

Wednesday through Sunday (Full monty) - 275 Euros
Thursday through Sunday - 250 Euros
Friday through Sunday (Main ASO Tournament) - 190 Euros

These price covers the Tournament fee, linnen and towels (10 Euros) as well as breakfast, lunch and dinners for the duration of your stay. In addition you will have to pay for a room to sleep in. The cost of that depends on how many you are willing to share a room with (rooms include shower and bathroom).

1-person room, Approximately 70 Euros per night per person
2-person room, Approximately 38 Euros per night per person
3-person room, Approximately 30 Euros per night per person
4-person room, Approximately 27 Euros per night per person

Contact Michael Hastrup-Leth (hastrupleth@gmail.com) for registration and a specific price for your stay.

Updates with regards to registered players, scenarios, ABS etc. will be made available on our website leading up to the tournament. Updates will be announced in the Gamesquad forums.

    More details at our website:

    See you in February

  5. The final game between Mr.Falk and Mr.Tournemire was won by Melvin Falk. In a game of "Best think again" Melvin had thought really well about how to defend against the aggressive russian and with a couple of turns still left Mr.Tournemire conceded game. With that Melvin claimed his 6th tournament win at Scandinavian Open. Congratulations and well done !

After a couple of late cancelations we had 38 players in the main tournament and 9 players who played friendly games for a total of 47 participants over the 5 day period that ASO lastet. The first players started showing up on monday and Tuesday. The first dice started rolling wednesday when there was about 10 people were there. By thursday there was about 20 people. We therefore consider the extended tournament a succes and we expect to offer something similar next year.

Thanks to everybody who participated and helped make it another succesful edition of Scandinavian Open. We hope you enjoyed it as much as Michael and I did ourselves and we hope to see you all and many more back for ASO 2017.

  7. The preparations for the 2016 Edition of the Scandinavian Open are well under way. Inspired by discussions in the Gamesquad forum and talks with regular attendees we have decided to expand the event by 2 optional extra days.

The dates for the tournament will be February 24-28 2016. Wedneday-Thursday, February 24-25 will be Friendly Gaming only. Friday-Sunday, February 26-28 we will have our classic format ASO Tournament with a 5 round main tournament combined with minitournaments saturday/sunday.

The friendly gaming Wednesday/Thursday will take place at the same venue as the main tournament, so you can see it as a chance to warm up for the main tournament or just a chance to play some new opponents in a friendly atmosphere. The tournament organisers will help arrange pairings if needed for the friendly gaming - but you can of course also make arrangements yourself. Either way we will guarantee you can get at least two games per day.

We have been able to negotiate a very good price with our Tournament Venue for the two extra days:

Wednesday through Sunday (Full monty) - 275 Euros

Friday through Sunday (Main ASO Tournament) - 190 Euros

These price covers the Tournament fee, linnen and towels (10 Euros) as well as breakfast, lunch and dinners for the duration of your stay. In addition you will have to pay for a room to sleep in. The cost of that depends on how many you are willing to share a room with (rooms include shower and bathroom).

1-person room, Approximately 55 Euros per night per person

2-person room, Approximately 33 Euros per night per person

3-person room, Approximately 29 Euros per night per person

4-person room, Approximately 26 Euros per night per person

5-person room, Approximately 23 Euros per night per person

Updates with regards to registered players, scenarios, ABS etc. will be made available on our website leading up to the tournament. Updates will be announced in the Gamesquad forums in this thread.

    See you in February

Apologies for the Lagus Assault Guns error on the PanzerFausts. For some reason when I copy-pastet the rule Klas had sent to me it changed "≤" to "=" and I didn't notice it.

We have decided to change venues for the 2014 Tournament. We have found an affordable youthhostel in the Copenhagen Area which can offer us an excellent playing area, affordable lodging and good service. The tournament format will remain the same as in past years. There will be 5 rounds and there will be a round with secret scenarios, ready to be published, from quality designers. It will most likely be the 3rd round in 2014 and not the 4th round like it was in 2013.

    i VCs.

In essence a destroyed German AFV and the exit of two Ami AFVs counts as one building controlled (FRU).

Original VC gav mulighed for 6 VP via afv exit/afv destruction. ASO VC gav mulighed for 4 VC via AFV exit/AFV destruction.

    ORIGINAL

    5 AFV exit (FRU) = 3 VP

    3 AFV destroyed = 3VP

    ASO VC

    ORIGINAL

    5 AFV exit + 3 AFV destroyed (FRU) = 4 VP maximum

    Really ?

Original vc were - ONE vp for the brits per af german afv destroyed. Aso vc were 0,5 vp for the brits per german afv destroyed (fru). that seems to benefit the germans.

It wouldn't be ASO if Mel wasnt unhappy about something.

  16. The ASO Website has been further updated:

    - Added new ASO SSR

(In all scenarios, with building control, building hex control or building location control rubbled building hexes still counts for Victory Condition purposes. Note, falling rubble outside original building hexes does not count for Victory Condition Purposes. )

    - Updated page for Friendly gaming with regards to equipment needed to be able to play the Fog of War scenarios

    - Updated list of registered players. 49 total now.

    http://www.asl-so.dk/

  17. ASO is now less than 4 weeks away

The ASO Website has been further updated]

    - Added Scenario Information regarding Minitournaments

    Tournament A: "Into the Unknown"

This mini tournament will consist of 3 scenarios that we can say absolutely nothing specific about.

Round 1 : Double-blind "Fog of War" Scenario.

Round 2 : One of the Scenarios from the Secret Round (Gary Fortenberry design)

Round 3 : One of the Scenarios from the Secret Round (Pete Shelling design)

Tournament B: Into the Rubbled city

This mini tournament will consist of 3 scenarios played on the "Festung Budapest" map. We will provide copies of the Map as needed.

    Round 1 : FB18 "Red Banner days"

    Round 2 : FB17 "Stalingrad Redux"

    Round 3 : FB 4 "HKL 259"

    - Updated list of registered players. Now stand at 46, Friendly Gamers included. We hope to be able to add a few more names to the list before the tournament.

    http://www.asl-so.dk/

    Thanks Klas

There are no changes to the scenarios other than the added SSR to Squeeze Play (Crews may not abandon AFV's voluntarily). It was posted on the ASO website.

    And

The ASO Website has been further updated:

    - Added ABS for ASO 2013 to website

    - Added ASO SSR to Squeeze play

    - List of registered players has been updated.

    http://www.asl-so.dk/

    Bo

  19. Vad ska vi nu prata om då?

    The good old days,

when the IIFT 3.5 column disrupted all fair tournament scenarios ... ah, those were the days ...

The website has been further updated.

Now include a list of ASL gear needed to play all the scenarios. And another clarification.

We have added a pair of clarifications. And updated the rules section.

    ASO 2011 - Results

The 14th edition of the ASL Scandinavian Open is in the books. 44 active players participated in the tournament stretching from Friday February 25th through Sunday February 27th 2011. The tournament was also visited by a handful of inactive players who did not participate in the tournament, including Christian Heerde from Germany who wandered the streets of Copenhagen for hours and hours on Friday trying to find the tournament venue.

In a highly competitive field the tournament found a new winner - Martin Svärd. The 7th player to win in Scandinavian Open history. Martin has been an ASO regular and solid performer since 2003. In the final game Martin defeated 3 time winner and 9 time finalist Melvin Falk after a memorable last turn. Martin and Melvin were playing DB083 "Block to Bataan" and in fairness things were looking very promising from Melvin (Japs), until ... and here's the story as I have heard it ... Martin was down to his last (broken) HS and it had to do the following in order to turn the game around :

    1) Self Rally - check

    2) CX and run across the open ground - check

    3) Survive the defensive fire from multiple Japanese AFV's and squads without even pinning - check

    4) Check for Battlehardening under fire without going beserk - check

    5) Succeed a PAATC and advance into close combat against the Jap AFV's - check

    6) Infiltrate the AFV's by rolling Snakeeyes - check

    7) Withdraw from the CC into a vacant hex in the Victory Area - check

    8) Stand in the street victorious - check

With that achieved, Martin claimed his first ASL Scandinavian Open Trophy. There's a lesson there boys and girls, don't stop playing until the game is technically unwinnable.

Melvin, finished 2nd in the standings. Klas Malmstrom (SW), Bjarne Marell (DK), Peter Struijf (NL) and Mattias Rönnblom (SW) also finished the tournament with 4-1 records.

The tournament was not only the 14th Edition of the ASL Scandinavian Open held in the National Arms Museum in Copenhagen - it was also the last. The venue which has served us well for so long is being rebuilt soon and will no longer be available for the tournament. But fear not, we will find a different tournament site for 2012.

The tournament also included 2 minitournaments on Saturday+Sunday, with 8 players participating. One Mini had 3 scenarios from the newly released Journal 9 and was won by Jes Touvdal (DK) as he swept through the 4 player round robin tournament. The other Mini had 3 carefully chosen scenarios from the Main Tournament. This Mini tournament was won by Patrik Manlig (SWE).

    Other Competitions

Snakeeyes - Martin Houmøller (DK) 21. Interesting story, Martin used 3 of the 21 sets of Snakeeyes to get KIA's against 3 of his own SS Squads (+ a leader) as he paraded through his own minefield in Schloss Hemingstein. Unusual strategy.

Boxcars - Paolo Cariolato (IT) 30. With 30 boxcars in the tournament Paolo had 10 more than number 2 in this competition.

Close Combat VP - Bo Siemsen (DK) +29. Slaughtering conscripts, Greenies - and reckless Marines to perfection.

All results will be submitted to the European Rating list.

From ASO we thank you for your participation, and hope to see you all (and many more) show up again in 2012.

Det var en rolig turneringen, bra arrangement.
