AFTERMATH (6 Turns): The Germans prepared for their assault into the Barrikady district. The attack would be spearheaded by one Sturm Coy and by three rifle companies — a massed assault force of 500 battle-hardened soldiers from the 6th Army. They were supported by a platoon of Panzer IIIL tanks, Stuka dive-bombers, and well-coordinated observed artillery fire that had been meticulously planned.

Opposing them, the Soviets had roughly 350 men holding the forward line and another 250 in a reserve position farther back — a total defensive strength of about 600 troops. Their position was anchored by two 45 mm anti-tank guns, fortifications and had booby-trapped the area.

At first light, the professionals of the 6th Army launched their push along the entire front. German stormtroopers, backed by the scream of Stukas and the thunder of artillery, smashed into the Soviet positions. The forward Soviet line was quickly overrun and evicted in a whirlwind of grenades and close-quarters combat. The surviving defenders were forced to fall back and frantically organize a second line of defense.

That second line, too, crumbled under the relentless German onslaught. The Soviets suffered horrendous losses — entire platoons wiped out by concentrated fire, building after building.

Then, suddenly, the German storm tactics ground to a halt.

Ammunition shortages, exacerbated by the brutal fighting. As the assault waves paused to resupply, a radio message crackled from the rear: the battalion chef reported that supper was ready. Exhausted soldiers exchanged grim, ironic glances. In the midst of hell, the war would wait for dinner.

The surviving Soviets regrouped, knowing the next German push would come soon. Call for reinforcement was requested send anything!!! The reply was "Militia 1st Coy is activated" in silence the Russian survivors thought - "will that help".

AFTERMATH 18 Oct (6 Turns):The German command concentrated today’s assault on the Barrikady factory halls. Fresh reinforcements were scheduled to arrive mid-battle to sustain the momentum.

The initial onslaught drove the Soviets back to their reserve line. Confident that a deep penetration was imminent, the German spearheads suddenly stumbled into a deadly trap. Four Soviet ART 76.2mm guns, concealed at point-blank range, revealed themselves and opened fire. The devastating high explosive blasts forced the Germans to dive for cover and reel back in panic.

All momentum was lost as the Germans redirected their entire effort toward neutralizing the guns. What followed was a savage, close-quarters battle of brutal intensity. German demolition charges were placed, hundreds of grenades were hurled across factory floors, through windows and doorways, while the Soviets launched constant counterattacks. In the smoke, chaos and rain pouring down of hand-to-hand fighting, three of the four guns were eventually destroyed.

Though the action had been costly, the German Truppenführer was proud of his men’s flexibility and composure. They had overcome a deadly obstacle that would have routed less experienced troops.

In the Volga sector, fighting remained low-intensity. The Germans managed to seize several wooden buildings in front of the Chemist’s Shop.

Along the railway embankment, a German probing attack quickly turned into a withdrawal under the fire of an active Soviet sniper. Moments later, the Russians launched a sharp counterattack with approximately seventy men and two commissars. One commissar was cut down, but the assault still cost the Germans around twenty soldiers.
