AFTERMATH 17 Oct (7 Turns): As the battle for Stalingrad reaches its Apex, and assault into the Red Barricades district for the first time, Col. Sandblom is tasked with crushing the Soviet resistance in the area. Using armor and artillery support, the Germans pushed hard towards the factory area. Besides the regular Soviet army soldiers, they also encountered armed Militia. The Soviets, led by Comrade Falk, were ready for them, with their own artillery and AT-guns. Using their overwhelming firepower, the Germans pushed hard in the center, inflicting heavy casualties to the Russian infantry, who narrowly avoided a collapse as one of the German modules are forced to divert its attention to support the German troops at the Volga front, where the Soviets quickly stalled and trapped the Germans in a local counter-attack, that disintegrated by the German artillery blasts. The two StuG IIIB the Germans had relied on, for support in the Volga sector, failed, as one were knocked out by an AT-Gun from the Chemist Shop fortified upper level, while the other StuG IIIB jammed its gun firing its first shot and disabled it and was Recalled. A bloody  day, especially for the Russians. 

Germ Casualties: 2 Leaders, 8.5 Squad-equivalents,  6 SWs, 2 AFVs (one Recalled).

AFTERMATH 18 Oct (6 Turns): The Germans bring forth heavy weapons during the night, and they bring value immedately. Within minutes of opening fire upon the Russians in the factories, half a company of Russians are dead. This quickly turns into a rout in hall 5, and the Germans seize it. Although the Russians do leave some presents behind, and the Germans lose 20 men to booby traps. By the Volga the Germans make some initial gains, but are stopped when the Russian artillery officer finally wakes up with an empty Vodka bottle in his hand and the Soviet artillery gets going. In the end, the Germans are pushed back, almost to their starting positions. Despite this, the Soviets pay in blood, losing horrendous amounts of men. STAVKA headquarters promises to send more reinforcements, and that these losses are insignificant. In the afternoon, the Germans lose steam, allowing the day to come to a somewhat peaceful end.

AFTERMATH 19 Oct (6 Turns): In the morning, the Germans continued their assault in the factories, but the brave Soviet miltia-men threw themselves at the German formations, initially throwing them back. Although bravery is no match for napalm though, and as the Pioneers entered the factories, the slaugther began by the professionals, as they gunned down and torched scores of armed factory soldiers ablaze and the factories were also set on fire. In the Volga area, the Germans pushed forward, mopping up all buildings all the way close to the Chemists shop, packed with Russian defenders, that was hammered by German artillery - Btln MTR. At the railway embankments, a Soviet AT 45mm gun had been brought forward during the night, and targeted an Immobilized Stug IIIB, although the first crew, was gunned down, the second crew that manned the AT was also eliminated, when the third crew manned the AT it managed fire and wreck the Stug IIIB.

AFTERMATH 20 Oct (6 Turns): Factories on fire, with several fires remaining from the day before and smoke covering parts of the factories, the Germans start in a precarious position. They hold on in the factory area, while pushing hard in the western part of the battlefield at the railway embankments area. Supported by a Pz IIIL that is fired upon by two hidden AT 45L guns that Immobilized the Panzer and is hit by a dozen more shots that all bounce of its protective armor and to make matters worse its return fire, break up the defense and the building is stormed by German infantry that spike both guns. In the factory complex the two remaining flamethrowers does good work to eliminate and rout the Russian defenders. By the second half of the battle, the smoke screens in the factories disappears due to rain. the Russian forces were so depleted by now, that they could barely hold back the resurgent German attack, and ground was taken as the Germans advanced across the factory floor. No planned assault at the Chemists Shop today, so the Soviets sent a sortie on the afternoon, retaking some lost ground as the Germans retreated from their forward outposts.

AFTERMATH 21 Oct (7 Turns): The Soviet high command has decided it's time to stop the retreat. They bring forth an elite SMG coy and two Btln artillery modules for a strong counterattack in the factories. The Germans fall right into the trap, and advance into the pre-registered fire zones. Once the German frontline is cracked by the artillery, the Soviet infantry exploits the success, eliminating several squads and capturing the last remaining German flamethrower. Along and across the railway embankments the Germans attack and crack the Soviet defense line, taking a lot of buildings. Two Russian AT guns open fire, at a German sturm squad approaching their positions, the amateuers spike both guns afraid they will fall into enemy hands. The Germans suffered heavy losses this day, but the Soviets paid a lot of resources to cause them. Both sides are exhausted and next day, becomes an idle day, fresh reinforcements are brought forward.

AFTERMATH 23 Oct (6 Turns): The Germans rethink how to take the factories during the idle day and a new plan is hatched. They call in heavy artillery directed by a spotter plane for accuracy and a pre-reg hex. This yields great results, as the artillery's direct strikes of being granted four fire missions in a row (the fifth fire mission is re-located to the Chemist shop), that sweeps away the defenders in the center, either killed or in total panic rout. The Germans in hot pursuit, and mop up most remaining Russians. movements are hindered by the stukas and rally points raked with Stuka-machineguns, in the end of the battle large gaps in the Soviet defense line is open and exploited, and the Germans spearheads seize another factory and gain a strong foothold across the street/open ground 100m wide. On the flanks, a few skirmishes happen, but a perimeter is now established west of the Chemist Shop and can be attacked from both the west and south directions the next day. A German combat group enter towards the Bread Factory district and establish a new perimeter among the wooden buildings and rubble west of the railway embankments.

In the - Red October Factory - district south of the - Red Barricades Factory - district, a full scale assault of 6-7 German Coys and about a dozen Panzer with the support of artillery and Stukas have entered the area for the first time, and made great gains of terrain against the Russians (see CG I Red October, X-TAG 23-29 October).

AFTERMATH 24 Oct (7 Turns): German attack in the Bread Factory area and encounter several hidden dug-in Russian AFVs T-70 and T-34 M41 and eliminate one after another in CC and grind their way forward. In the factory complex the Germans are struck by several artillery blast and the Russians attack and rout the Germans out of their perimeter in the long-stretched factory inflicting severe casualties as they retreat out of that factory. A German assault is launched at the Chemist Shop, the Russian defenders are overpowered by the large German attacking force but suffer losses as Russian artillery blast them around that building and hinder any further progress towards the Commissar House. After the battle 6 wounded German officers are sent away to hospital. Seven objectives have been taken by the Germans, need to gain eleven objectives to achieve victory.

AFTERMATH 25 Oct (7 Turns): The German continues to attack and the constant pressure, demand instant reinforcements up-front and called in a Russian Assault Engineer Coy to bolster the defense lines before the German assault begins. In the Bread factory area the German attack gain ground and inflict great losses and as they are about to gain momentum suddenly a Set-DC explodes and rubble the building hex and disintegrate 25 German Soldiers with 3 German DC and a LMG, also eliminated, that was the spearheading the attack, although the German re-group and send forth a new frontal assault team and force the Russians into panic and retreat mode. In the central factory complex the German force entry into the Russian factory positions but after savage hand-to-hand CC they are forced to retreat and the front line stay almost the same. The Volga sector stay mostly silent with some skirmish fighting. The Germans now Control 9 Objective of 20 possible and need to gain two more the next two CG days before the CG ends to be able to claim victory.

AFTERMATH 26 Oct (6 Turns): The Germans are running out of time, as the Offiziers in command have promised Berlin that the Soviet defensive lines are about to crumble within the next 48 hours. A Nebelwerfer rocket battery is aimed at the Russian positions in the central factory complex but fails and shatter behind the Soviet lines and set two factories ablaze and some buildings adjacent to them (about 10% chance for a total miss). Anyhow that was the signal to start the attack and as the attack begins it starts to rain and increase into heavy rain, and gruessome hand-to-hand fighting in the Red halls is the norm of today's battle, inflicting 1:1 losses for each side. The Soviets enter with a Gds SMG Coy sending 6 squads towards the factory complex and 3 squads to the Bread factory area and their arrival is much needed in both sectors. End of the battle the Germans have established footholds in three of the factories. Along the Volga sector the Germans move their positions forward as they discover that the Russians have pulled back their troops to the two-story buildings and reserve line. In the Bread factory area the German attack during the day gain control of the third bread factory out of four, but as they push forward towards the last bread factory #4 a hidden dug-in T-34 M43 opens fire and knocked out a Pz IIIH, then they are targeted by a Btln MTR artillery that blast their positions and suddenly the German spearhead stumbled into booby-traps killing a 338 & 228, the German assault stumbled forward in face of stiff resistance of the best Russian troops defending the area. A total of 10 objectives have been captured. One more is needed for victory but German high command have only granted one last day for an assault to be conducted, before a much needed rest have been ordered. The Russian command on the ground asked Stavka for more infantry reinforcements, but got the message that no more Infantry Coy reserves are available to send to the Red Barricades... 25 Soviet Coy have been sent to the area and about 20 Russian Coy have perished during 17-26 October.

AFTERMATH 27 Oct (6 Turns): Orders are sent out by the German command, preparatory plans are laid out. For the last three days, a mild breeze has blown in a south-east direction—what are the odds? (1/5831) Close-quarters combat erupts in the factory halls as a German spotter plane directs 150mm artillery fire against Soviet soldiers hunkered down in the roofless ruins. The last commissar is killed instantly when his position is reduced to rubble by the first heavy 150+mm shells. A hidden Russian artillery piece opens fire, knocking out a Panzer before being silenced by advancing German Stosstruppen. Soviet artillery hammers the German positions in the halls with 120mm shells to great effect, while another Panzer is destroyed outside by two ART guns firing from the Commissar House.
Along the Volga shore, a small German raiding party of 15 soldiers advances toward what appears to be an abandoned Russian frontline—until the roar of two KV-1 Model 1942 tanks echoes across the bank, crushing the invaders under their heavy tracks with their guns blazing. Suddenly, another roar pierces the sky as Stuka dive bombers swoop in and knock out the KV-1 behemoths. In the Bread Factory, German positions are directly targeted by another Russian 120mm artillery, scoring direct hits that kill 30 men and wipe out an INF as it rubble half the two-hex building. This Artillery proves devastatingly effective, continuing to blast the Germans to smithereens throughout the day—eliminating half a company and forcing the German command to commit reinforcements and even Stukas in a desperate bid to halt the relentless Russian push, which ultimately fails.
The battle's fate is now in the factory complex, where the Germans win crucial hand-to-hand close combats and crush any remaining Soviet hopes. The Russians, stubborn as donkeys, make futile attempts to achieve some semblance of success to report to their furious commander. Now it's time for a German victory parade, extra rations for the soldiers, and a happy ending. The end.
