Nice AAReports Bo

I can still remember that nasty Chinese Stuart blasting Canister at (single DR) three Japanese units that were standing in three different hexes, not much standing for them after that.

Here is a rule-exploration about that specific situation that we played wrong .

The Chinese has two 5-3-7 squads and a Stuart standing in the palm tree hex.

The Japanese have a Concealed leader and squad with DC in the dense jungle

not adjacent.

Japanese MPh the leader Assault Move ADJACENT to the Chinese stack, no response

from the Chinese , then the Jap. squad with DC also Assault move to the same hex as his

leader no response, However , the squad now expends one MF to Place the DC (?-loss)

against the Chinese - Response by the two 5-3-7 squads 20 FPc +2 TEM, the Japanese squad

is forced to take a MC, roll the MC the DR is 2 -HOB- Berserk.

Now comes the error - I believed that a DC Placement only succeeds if made by a Good Order

and not Pinned unit (maybe some can check up the 1st edition rules) anyhow we played that

the placement attempt failed and the squad charged into the palm trees and in the APh

he throws the DC instead.

The rules tell us that a DC Placement also succeeds if it is made by a unit that becomes Berserk

(A unit that is Berserk in the beginning of its MPh may never Place a DC).

Note if we had played it correctly the Placed DC would never attack any Japanese unit

in the Hex unless they were locked in Meele or if a building was in the hex and rubbled by the DC

but then it is the rubble that attacks the Japanese unit not the DC , well you know what I mean.

How do I remember this after 3 Months and 50 scenarios later - For three weeks ago I played

a scenario with Patrik Manlig , my Russian 8-0 leader with DC tries to place it against a Pz III

Flammenpanzer (FT 30 FP) the Flammenwerfen attack turns my 8-0 leader Berserk during the

Placement attempt and the same error is about to repeat itself by us both until a bird or if you

prefer Klas Malmström tell us that it is placed anyway, thanks Klas.

End story the Russian leader killed in the open while charging forward and later in the APh

the DC blow the tracks of that nasty armour dragon.

In the future we will hopefully play this more in accordance with the rules

since this seems to be a rather common occurance - I mean - DC Placement

and the unit goes Berserk while trying B)

Hey Mel,

thank you.

That one canister was my one moment of glory in that scenario. The one time the japanese got what they deserved.

Regardless how we played that DC placement/beserker-squad it would still have been the end of me in that scenario. I wasn't doing particularly well with my poor plan - but that one squad really killed my chances. We'll see if I can do better next time.
