AP 17 Valley of Death - What Next !

Hi Guys,

I was reading on the Consimworld forum about this scenario from the latest Action Pack, designed (and advertised pretty heavily) by Mark Pitcavage.

This little gem has an SSR, which allows the Italians to undertake Banzai Charges....

Two Questions arose:

1) Can we at least suggest a better NAME than Banzai Charge for an Italian version......Spaghetti Wave ? Pasta Charge ? Any other ideas ?

2) What's next in the sick minds of our Game Designing Friends ?

SSR 1: The Spotter Plane with 2 Heroes on board may land on a Motion Truck by passing a Matrix Task Check and counts as 15 CVP if exited off the board edge.

SSR 2: If the Wind Change DR = 4, it is Tea Time. All British SMC become TI. To release these SMC from this condition, two squad-equivalent of Gurkha MMC must move to the Pond and spend 2 MF collecting water and 2 Game Turns TI Cooking Tea. British SMC then become Fanatic until Game End.

SSR 3: Buildling 24 P5 is the Sex Shop. Any American MMC, which first gains a LOS to the Sex Shop, becomes TI for two Game Turns. Any French MMC which gains LOS to the Sex Shop immediately goes Berserk and must charge the Sex Shop as if it is the Nearest Known Enemy Unit in LOS, engage it in Hand to Hand CC. The Sex Shop has a FP factor of 5 for this purpose (Exc: 8 FP in the PTO)

Maybe you guys have some more ideas ? Anything you might find in next year's Friendly Fire Pack ?

I think "Pasta Charge" is the official one.

I thought these where the official SSR's for Arnhem this year?

I agree, by creating all these "this-time-this-happened" SSR's you are not playing ASL. We have a great rule system and I think we should stick to it. We have HASL for special events.

On the other hand, without these special scenarios, maybe we'll loose some interesting ones? None springs to my mind though...

Now, wait a second! You are saying that designers should not use Scenario Special Rules to create Special Rules for the scenario?

Am I the only person who think that sounds a little bit wrong?

No partisans in Urban Guerrillas? No Hitler Youth in the sewers in Acts of Defiance? No burning buildings in Shanghai in Flames?

I think a little chocolate fudge for our vanilla ice cream every now and then is a nice thing. :)

Hi Guys and Mark

Yes, you are the only person that thinks it sounds wrong.

You know what was intended and by trying to lay words into other people's mouth you are not furthering your position.

IIRC, you are also usually complaining when people lay words in your mouth on the american forum so why is it better when you do it on here?

My only 'thing' about this is the wording of named scenario!

Other than that there seems to be very positive feedback of the Action Pack.

I think the precise term you used was "idiotiskt," correct? :)

Why do you have a problem with it?

best,

Mark

Welcome to the forum, Pitman!

You take a lot of effort to read news about your Action Pack it seems. You also speak the language of sweden, eeehh?

Anyway, my direct thoughts were that it was really unnessecary to use same name for scenario as previously published scenario from FRF.

If this was unintentionally it's one thing but Im sure that you had information already available.

I don't think ASL'ers like new scenarios interferring with old names/existing scenarios!

Perhaps:

next Critical Hit pack includes a - Agony Of Doom

next schwerpunkt includes a - Cold Crocodiles

Not a good thing IMO.

Note, this is really trivia, and the designer seem to take it real cool also, so no worry. :)

NOW, (for the interesting part)

This whole thread seems lika a scam from the beginning to end!

I have earlier suspect some joking guy to be playing around here once and awhile, well this time we will find out!

Firstly:

I agree with Mark that some SSR's can be very good! Indeed, the ones you mention are good examples.

I think I have to change my mind on that one!

I must say though that I tend to not choose scenarios with strange SSR's when I look at scenarios. Hence my post.

Secondly [moderator mode = on]

Peter, your post (#5) is quite provoking and does not reflect every persons mind on this forum. It's your opinion and I suggest that you think about that when you post.

[moderator mode = off]

Thirdly:

I agree with Maglica and Ola on this matter!

I think my ability is limited to what I have learned from the "Swedish Chef." :)

However, there is a Swedish to English internet translator which is helpful to me. :)

We both got our scenario title from the same historical source, independently of each other.

Of course, when I designed "The Valley of Death," back in late 2004 or early 2005, FRF was not yet published. Had "Valley of Death" already been published at the time, I probably would not have designed my scenario in the first place, but chosen some other action instead (although our two scenarios are very different in nature and offer different playing experiences).

FRF knew about my scenario (they downloaded an early playtest kit of it) but if I remember correctly, never told me that FRF had a scenario in the works with the same name. By the time FRF actually came out, I had been using my scenario title for quite a while already and liked it a lot. So I thought about it, and in the end decided to keep it. I didn't think it would cause any confusion; there are already scenarios out there that duplicate titles; with nearly 4000 scenarios it is inevitable from time to time.

Obviously, I have been a big booster of FRF since the release of the first one, and recommended it many times to people, so there was never any attempt at disrespect, etc.

best,

Mark

I never saw your version of The Valley of Death or any other AP3 scenarios until I bought the pack at WBC. So I guess you must be referring to Martin when you say "FRF".

I would just be proud if someone copied my title. Without saying that is what you did, Mark. (I don't think you did.) But that is what some people will believe happened. :-)

The same thing happened to me a while ago. I was doing a scenario featuring schwere Panzer-Abteilung 501. That battalion uses a stalking tiger as its symbol, and the title "Stalking Tigers" was very suitable also considering the action depicted. Now I've found out there was a scenario with that title already. I haven't really decided what to do.

Hi Guys

I apologise for speaking my personal opionion of what Mark thinks in my previous post.

I still stand for the part about not laying words in other people's mouth, but that was exactly what I did myself so I doubly apoligise for that.

It was totally out of line since I am a moderator on here.

Thanks for pointing it out to me Andreas.

 Astonishly, he actually lives 20 km from my house, I see his "svenska kocken" corporate-van occasionally!

Now when this thread seem's to have quiet down, I only wish there will be some AAR's of the Action Pack soon on the swedish forum. And that you beat Maglica when he arrives at ASLOK, it's my favourite opponent to beat. And the more losses he takes, the better for my chances to win at next time i'll met him! B)
