The plans for ASO '13 are ....

We have made some changes for the coming ASO, I hope you will like them.

A 5 round tournament, where rounds 1-2-3 and 5 will - in each round - have 5 scenarios to choose between.

4th round will be a secret round with 3 unpublished scenarios from Gary Fortenbarry, Pete Shilling and hopefully Peter Struijff, ABS will have 5 levels.

We are planning to have an all weekend non-competitive, but a lot of fun, event running.

And if you haven't got Friday off but would like to participate anyway, then you could join the mini's Saturday and Sunday.

and

The tournament site will remain the same as this year; Akademisk Studenterkursus, which is a school located 2 km from central Copenhagen. It is possible to sleep at the tournament site - no showers available, but a body wash is possible using the washbasin :-)

Hotels are within 15 min's walking or 5 min's by cab.

We hope to see you in Copenhagen 22-24th of February 2013.

best regards

Michael and Bo

That will only work if you do a strict theme tournament format: Otherwise you will need to bring with you more ASL-gear than ever before and players that doesn´t bring any stuff with them will have a harder time to burrow stuff from others player, and end up playing what other players can lend out.

A secret round is more time-consuming and that you end up playing a dog-scenario cannot be avoided.

How will the scenario selection process be handled when there is five scenarios to choose from?

Our intention is that ASO should be a lot of fun and full of challenging scenarios- we are also planning to avoid any dog like scenarios :-) the 3 Designers - beginners as they are - are a bit nervous about this high and almost unreachable goal, but they have sworn an oath on the "Holy IIFT Table" to do their very best !

It will not be necessary to bring more ASL gear than you are used to, and we will take scenario length into consideration when choosing the Very-Very Secret scenarios.

We haven't decided how we will do the scenario selection yet, but we might copy the way the Albany tournament do it.

We will never return to Tøjhus museet, because the room has been converted to a storage room :-(

see some of you in Borås tomorrow

best regards

We have added a pair of clarifications. And updated the rules section.

Vad ska vi nu prata om då?

The good old days,

when the IIFT 3.5 column disrupted all fair tournament scenarios ... ah, those were the days ...

The website has been further updated.

Now include a list of ASL gear needed to play all the scenarios. And another clarification.

Andreas Larsson added to the Swedish ASO contingent. 49 players all in all.

Potential players should be aware that you don't need to play in the main tournament all 5 rounds. You can play two rounds Friday and ( if you lose one or two of the) continue into one of the two mini tournaments Saturday ( 2 rounds) and Sunday (1 round).

or you could play a friendly game Friday and jump into a mini tournament Saturday/ Sunday.

Is Tom Påhlsson, Sebastian Kalucza, Rasmus Johansson, Johan Fröding and Jerry Adamsson still active ASL players ?

best regards

- Updated page for Friendly gaming with regards to equipment needed to be able to play the Fog of War scenarios

- Updated list of registered players. 49 total now.

Very active we are now 5 players around Karlshamn who are playing "red barricades" once a week and we have during the last 3 years started up at least 10 "red barricades" campaigns though we have´nt finished any single one of them , there are always one side that "throw in the towel"

I hope that one day in my life i will get back to the best gaming convention that i ever have been on.

Michael and I would like to thanks everyone who participated in a fun weekend of ASL. A total of 45 players took part in the weekend event. A nice improvement in numbers from 2012. We introduced some new things to the tournament experience this year and overall we felt it was quite successful. We will strive to build on that in 2014 and hope to see all of you, and others too, next year. Feedback is as always appreciated. We have already discussed how to improve.

The results for all games will be submitted to the AREA Rankings and scenarios will be added to ROAR.

Thanks

Bo Siemsen & Michael Hastrup-Leth

/ASO

Thanks for your effort that it takes to organize the tournament - although it was not very good compared to your better achievements the previous years. The chance to play the scenario that you prefer the most are in decline with 5-scenarios-per-round, and your scenario

selection process is less care-free than ever.

Hope your discussion of improvement is seen as an improvement by all, the new format with five scenarios per round is not very good (why not have 10 scenarios per round?) and now the secret is revealed that it is playtest scenario with unfinished/unclear playtesting/written VCs that spoils the whole reason of a tense/fun game.

You write all scenarios-games, the surprise round scenarios were apparently play-test scenarios, think that ROAR should not accept that these scenarios are submitted to their stats.

Thanks Bo and Michael for an excellent weekend. I really like the scenarios I played, and it's always so nice to meet you guys. It's just a pity that you can't play, but I fully understand that the burden of tournament-directing makes it impractical.

Anyway, thanks for a splendid time, and keep up the good work. I hope to see you soon, in an environment were you guys get the opportunity to roll boxcars at critical moments.

Take care,

Erik

Hej,

Really ?

Original vc were - ONE vp for the brits per af german afv destroyed. Aso vc were 0,5 vp for the brits per german afv destroyed (fru). that seems to benefit the germans.

It wouldn't be ASO if Mel wasnt unhappy about something.

Scott skrev: Ok, took me a bit to reread the VC a few times, but if from what I can grok, the Allies building control requirements are reduced for every two US AFV's exit and each German AFV destroyed.

Probably an easier way to word it I would think.

Gary skrev: Yeah, but you are a verified troll imbecile.

P.S. even my iPad knows you....it constantly tries to spellcheck Holst as dolts.

Melvin skrev:

hmm.. so when the TD told me it was poorly written and these sentences should be replaced with the following instead......

One US AFV exited counts as a half building (FRU), and each German AFV eliminated counts as a building Controlled by the British (FRU).

"hmm" to the extend that Michael and I had tested it with that VC.

So with a bit of a stressful situation that was the version of the VC we felt most comfortable sticking with at ASO when we had a quick decision to make. Whatever words I chose when trying to clarify it to you means little in that regard. I had some information that I needed to deliver. Who cares what I called it.
